Beyond the Classroom

Life @ MDIS

An American education is not measured only in transcripts. It is measured in the play a child rehearsed for three months, the match they traveled to Delhi to lose, the club they started, the camp that changed how they see themselves — and the certificate they carried home at the end of it.

Our Philosophy

Activities are part of the record — not a distraction from it

In the American system, what a student builds, performs, captains or serves is written into the transcript that universities read. That single fact changes how a school has to be run.

At MDIS a child is not asked to choose between the classroom and everything else. The stage, the field, the science fair table and the service project are all scheduled, all supervised, and all counted. Our teachers coach the teams and direct the plays. Our students lead the clubs.

🎭

Perform

Major annual shows like Moana and The Lion King — complete with live music, student-built sets, and packed houses.

Compete

Inter-school fixtures against American Embassy School, New Delhi and Prometheus School, Noida.

🌲

Explore

Leadership camp, annual retreat and outdoor education — rafting, paragliding, kayaking, tree climbing.

👐

Serve

Community service and charity drives, recorded and reflected on — an expectation of graduation, not an option.

The MDIS Year

Five events the whole school plans its year around

Every one of them is open to parents. Every one of them is run by students with faculty alongside, not instead of, them.

Spring Term

Science Fair

An investigation, a board, a hypothesis defended to a judge. The clearest expression of how an American curriculum teaches science — by doing it, not by reciting it.

Spring term

World Culture Day

A celebration where all the cultures of our school community come together to share traditional food, traditions, and heritage — highlighting our truly international community.

Winter Term

Author's Tea

Students publish and then read their own writing aloud to an audience of parents and peers. Nervous, formal, and the proudest afternoon of the year for many families.

Autumn Term

Sports Day

The whole school on the field — track events, house relays, field games and a parents' race. Our new campus track and turf make this the biggest day in the MDIS calendar.

Autumn Term

Thanksgiving Day

A distinctly American tradition, kept properly. Students write what they are grateful for, families are invited, and the community eats together.

Winter Term

Book Character Day

The library takes over the school. Every child arrives as a character from something they have actually read — and has to explain why they chose them.

Seats fill before the calendar does. Admissions for Academic Year 2026–27 are open. Speak to us before the term begins.
Athletics

A campus built for playing, not watching

Full-size turf field, competition track, multi-sport synthetic court and a covered practice area — on campus, in daily use, and part of the timetable rather than an after-school extra.

This season's fixtures

Baseball vs American Embassy SchoolNew Delhi · Inter-school fixture
Soccer vs Prometheus SchoolNoida · Inter-school fixture

Playing American Embassy School at baseball says something no brochure can. It places MDIS in the company of the international schools our families are actually choosing between — and it gives our students a standard to measure themselves against.

Baseball

The sport that marks an American school. Coached on campus, played competitively.

Soccer

Full-size pitch, house leagues through the year and inter-school fixtures across the NCR.

Basketball

Two hoops, competition markings, floodlights for evening practice.

Athletics

Competition track and field events, culminating in Sports Day.

Want to see the field in use? Campus tours run on working days. Come when classes are on and the courts are busy.
MDIS Productions

Every year, the school puts on a show

Moana. The Lion King. Auditions, months of rehearsal, a live band, sets built by students and a full house of families. Nothing else we do teaches nerve quite like it.

🎵

Music at MDIS

From classroom ensembles to our dedicated recording studio, music at MDIS is built directly into the weekly timetable. Students craft tracks in the studio and perform live at assemblies and the annual production.

🎤

Performance is the point

Rehearsal builds perseverance and mastery, while performance teaches confidence under pressure. MDIS students develop both through regular shows at school, community, and external venues.

Clubs & Activities

Ten-plus clubs. Student-led, faculty-supported

Clubs meet weekly during the timetabled activity block. Any student who can find a faculty sponsor and five members can propose a new one — which is how most of these started.

Camps & Outdoor Education

Two camps a year, and a river at the end of one of them

The leadership camp and the annual retreat take students off campus and out of their comfort zone — supervised, insured and deliberately demanding. Most of what a child remembers about school happens on these trips.

Leadership Camp

Team tasks, problem-solving under pressure, and structured reflection at the end of each day. Students return with roles they did not have before — house captains, club leads, peer mentors.

The Annual Retreat

A residential trip built around adventure and community. Rafting, climbing, water sports and campfire evenings, with faculty living alongside the students for the duration.

Every camp, club and fixture is open to your child. One conversation with a counselor is usually enough to know whether MDIS is the right fit.
Enterprise & Service

Two habits we try hard to build early

Making something people will pay for, and giving without being asked. Neither can be taught from a textbook, and both appear on a university application whether a school plans for them or not.

Student Enterprise

Students design a product or service, cost it, market it and sell it — then account for what they made. The cooking and baking clubs supply the market day; the art and crafts clubs supply the stalls. Profits are voted on by the students who earned them, and usually go to the service project below.

Service & Charity

Collection drives, community visits and partnership projects run through the year. Service hours are recorded and reflected on rather than simply totted up — a student has to be able to say what changed, for the community and for them.

Recognition

Effort, named out loud

MDIS keeps an American tradition of formal recognition: the Dean's List, honor roll citations, house awards and end-of-year commendations, presented on stage in front of families.

It matters more than it sounds. A child who has been publicly told that their work was excellent carries that into the next year — and into the letters of recommendation that eventually go to universities.

Dean's List

Awarded for sustained academic distinction across the year.

Honor Roll

Termly recognition of consistent effort and improvement.

House Awards

Points earned across sport, service and academics.

Commendations

Faculty citations for character, leadership and service.

We are not preparing children for an examination in March. We are preparing them for a university interview, a first job, and a life they will build in a country we cannot predict.

Come and see a normal Tuesday

Open days show a school at its best. We would rather you saw it working — classes in session, the field in use, a club meeting, a rehearsal running late.
