One student's year

“Last term he read his own book review aloud to the class.”

A fourth grader joined MDIS reading two grade levels behind and avoiding written work. Within a month we agreed a plan with his parents — small group phonics four mornings a week, extra time, and a laptop for longer assignments. Fourteen months later, he reads at grade level.
